NCAA Wrestling Championship Prediction: 184 LBS
It’s that time of the year again people! MARCH MATNESS! That’s right I said MATness, not madness. The college wrestling postseason is right around the corner and it has been one hell of a season so far. I will be doing a count down the next two weeks of my picks of which wrestler is going to take the crown at each of the 10 weight classes in Minneapolis, Minnesota March 19th – March 21st. I’m so excited people you have no idea. In this article we will take a look at who I think will be standing at the top of the podium for the 184 LB division.
Chach’s Pick: Trent Hidlay – FR. NC State
Now that Zahid Valencia has officially been ruled out for the NCAA tournament 184 is wide open with only 2 of the top 8 ranked wrestlers being upper-classman. For my pick, I’m going with the freshman here at 184 from North Carolina State, Trent “Hoagie Boy” Hidlay. The freshman from Mifflin County, PA has had a phenomenal start to his career going 23-4 so far this season. Last Sunday he placed 2nd in the ACC with his loan loss coming to Virginia Tech’s Hunter Bolen. Trent is a physical specimen, much like his brother and my pick to win the 157 LB weight class Hayden. His style is very old school in the fact that he is going to grind you down and beat the absolute crap out of you until you break. And if winning an NCAA title isn’t motivation enough for someone, I feel like having the opportunity to stand at the top of the podium with your brother and best friend is.
Get your hoagies ready people because I feel like this freshman has some tricks left up his sleeve. Honestly, NC State has looked great this season as a team and could make huge waves in the team race if their team shows out and wins the toss up matches. Expect big things from this kid not only this year, but for years to come. I’m going with the Wolfpack again! Don Chach out!
